How we make money
This disclosure exists because the Federal Trade Commission requires it (16 CFR Part 255) and because you should be able to see who's paying for what you're reading.
The relationships
As of 1 September 2026, no affiliate programme has been approved and we are earning nothing from any link on this site. We're listing the relationships we've applied for so that the page is ready, and we will fill in the commission column only once each one is live. Listing a relationship we don't have would be worse than listing none.
| Seller | Relationship | Typical commission |
|---|---|---|
| EcoFlow | Applied, not yet approved | — |
| Jackery | Applied, not yet approved | — |
| Anker | Applied, not yet approved | — |
| Amazon Associates | Applied, not yet approved | — |
| Bright Saver | None, and there never will be. Nonprofit, sells at cost, pays us nothing | — |
| CraftStrom | No programme as of 1 September 2026 | — |
When one goes live, this table changes on the same day, and the commission band is stated here rather than only in the footer.
What we do about the obvious problem
The obvious problem is that we'd be paid more when you buy an expensive kit, and the expensive kit is not always the right one.
- The savings model doesn't know who pays us. It applies the same factors to every product.
- Our recommendation for anyone spending under $400 is Bright Saver, which pays us nothing.
- The calculator has a verdict that tells you not to buy. It fires whenever the estimated saving is under about $100 a year.
- We don't accept review units on terms that involve anyone approving the review first. If we're sent hardware we say so on the review.
- We don't run ads and we don't sell leads. No form on this site passes your details to an installer.
If you'd rather not contribute a commission, go to the seller directly. We'd still rather you bought the right thing.
Where the disclosure appears
Above the first affiliate link on any page that has one, in the same size type as the surrounding text, plus in the footer of every page. If you find an affiliate link on this site without a disclosure above it, that's a mistake — tell us.
